The concept of individual rights has been present in international relations for ages, whether in the form of providing political asylum, jurisdiction waiver or other. However, only after the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the UN in 1948, it has finally acquired the status of a legal norm that will hopefully remain in the international discourse for good.
